Excerpts from the Book
"...Big changes are made between six months and one year of age. At six
months, an infant is considered, well, an infant; but by the time he or
she is one year old, the rank is pushed up to "toddler."
There are certain milestones that most babies achieve during a certain
period of development. That doesn't mean they must reach these
milestones in any particular order. We can divide infant development at
this stage into four categories: physical, intellectual, social, and
emotional. Moral development does not begin until a little later.
The following is a list of various milestones that may be achieved
between six months and one year..." (page 11)
"...There are millions of families who circumcise their children every
day. The procedure is done rather quickly after the birth of a baby
boy, and it's almost rare to hear of a grown man being circumcised.
With today's generation of babies, it seems as though circumcision has
become the norm and not much debate is given to the procedure. For
parents who do wonder about circumcision, the question of whether to
"snip or not to snip" is a very big question.
Socially, some may think that not having a boy circumcised in today's
age is cruel. Yet, there are many cultures and people who believe
circumcision is a form of mutilation and is unnecessary. There are many
sides to consider, but all parents should know that when it comes to
circumcision..." (page 21)
"...You can expect your child to show his or her first signs of
teething starting around five months old. Some start earlier than that,
while others start much later. Teething at any age is perfectly normal.
The first obvious sign of teething is drooling. You may want to have a
burp pad handy or put bibs on your child to catch all those drips.
Then, your child will begin experiencing red and bumpy gums. This can
cause pain and you may find that your child cries during this phase.
Once the tooth breaks the surface, it will not be as painful. Also,
remember that some children have more pain than others. You need to
understand what you can do to help your child ease that pain. Here are
some handy products that you can use..." (page 51)
"...Dads, the best tool for learning is practice. So, new fathers,
don't be afraid to get in there and hold the baby. The more the new
father holds the new baby, the more confident he becomes in his own
ability to hold and protect his baby. And though babies may not be able
to accurately see you due to shortsightedness, they can definitely
remember your scent, your voice, and the way you hold them. The baby
will eventually become familiar with the father's arms and any feeling
of anxiety will be lost.
Dads, you will forever cherish the pleasure of seeing your baby's
angelic smile each time you pick baby up..." (page 66)
